With the movie hitting theaters soon, it’s time for people to take a gander at the book. This was always a classic growing up; if you weren’t assigned this in school for your reading list, you missed out. The Giver is a classic young teen adolescent book about a seemingly perfect world where there is no pain, no war, and no chaos and yet a young boy is chosen to learn from an elderly man about what the real world is all about. The main character Jonas is chosen at the age of 12 to go to the giver, where he is supposed to acquire wisdom from the real world and once he makes that first leap of knowledge there was no going back. The movie adaptation has an all star cast featuring Katie Holmes, Meryl Streep, and always a fan favorite Taylor Swift! The book is written with a deep psychological understanding of the human mind and fears that both we create and are thrust upon us as a people. Throughout the novel we come to see that this utopian world is not so great after all and it gives us an entirely new perspective on what we may expect out of life. If you haven’t already, make this a part of your library. You won’t regret it.
