2016 has featured some of the biggest breakthroughs in music history. Justin Bieber taught you to “Love Yourself,” we had “One Dance” with Drake, then got “Stressed Out” with Twenty One Pilots, went to “Work” with Rihanna although we have yet to figure out what she’s saying, and had some “Cheap Thrills” with Sia and Sean Paul. Although Adele graced us in 2015 with the release of 25, her artistry dominated the charts for us in 2016. Justin Timberlake released “Can’t Stop The Feeling” and was the best-selling song of the year. Joe Jonas joined DNCE and produced the hit “Cake By The Ocean.” Twenty One Pilots also dominated the radio with “Heathens” which is also the theme song for the film Suicide Squad (2016). The heartbreaking piece by Gnash and Olivia O’Brien, “I Hate U, I Love U” served as the ultimate breakup song of 2016. Meghan Trainor stood her ground with “No” and showed us that no is no. Dangerous Woman, the third studio album from Ariana Grande features some of her biggest hits, “Into You,” “Dangerous Woman,” and “Side to Side.” 2016 has highlighted many artists across a grand spectrum of genres. The music industry has definitely set itself up for 2017….will the outcome exceed our expectations?
