Flash Back Song Of the Week- Bob Marley – One Love

Posted by admin On April - 25 - 2012

With the release of Marley last week and playing in theaters now, let’s look back at one of Marley’s most famous hits, One Love. As a kid I loved this song. It always made me feel good, bringing up my mood up and filling my day with joy and happiness. It is a great way to remember a legend, an icon that expressed his love of music to the whole world and will continue to do so through his legacy. In the film, an interviewer asks him: “How big do you think this music will get?” Bob: “I think it will get bigger and bigger until it reaches the right people.” May his spirit live on.

Christina Perri – A Thousand Years

Posted by admin On April - 16 - 2012

This song is part of the soundtrack for the movie Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 1. Christina Perri is known for her slow romantic like music, and this song was no different. It seems to be the perfect song for a wedding which was a main part of the Twilight movie. Perri has a nice voice, it would be interesting to see if she can mix it up a bit and try something different for the future.

K’NAAN ft Nelly Furtado “Is Anybody Out There?

Posted by admin On April - 16 - 2012

Check out this music video from K’NAAN and Nelly Furtado as they try to get their message out about loneliness. The video gives insight into the hardships of many troubled teenagers. The trouble usually stems from inner loneliness that they feel. Speaking with ARTISTdirect.com K’NAAN explains how loneliness affects more than just elderly people and despite all the online social mediums loneliness is still very prevalent. Neverthess this a good collaboration between the Somalian hip-hop artist and the Canadian beauty. I havn’t seen Nelly Furtado since her collaborations with Timbaland, its nice to see her being part of this uplifting track.

HYFR – Drake ft Lil Wayne

Posted by admin On April - 16 - 2012

This music video has quickly become my favorite of all drake’s videos. It is so funny yet you find yourself wanting to have a cool Bar-Mitzah like that. I want to be lifted in the air yelling ‘Hell Yea’. I do not know how this teenage Degrassi actor has become such a phenomenon seemingly overnight but for some reason we can’t get enough of Drake right now. The worse part is, it seems he has all that it takes to render him useless as a rapper. After all he is a Canadian Jew (no offense to Canadians and Jews ) who was in a teen drama on Nickelodeon. Now he is arguably one of the biggest rappers alive. He sings , he raps and we have seen him act. There doesn’t seem to be much that Drake can not do.

This music video was shot in an actual temple in Miami.

Jason Mraz – I Won’t Give Up

Posted by admin On April - 12 - 2012

Check out this new song from Jason Mraz’s new album “Love Is a Four Letter Word” which is set to be released on May 8th. Titled “I Won’t Give Up”. This single which has peaked at #1 on Itunes takes off exactly from where Mraz left off the last time he performed. His slow , branches swaying in the wind type of sound flows smoothly out of your speakers on this track. Only significant change seems to be the beard that he is growing. Not sure what that is about but it doesnt make a difference. Jason Mraz will always have thousands enjoying his music no matter what he wears. He was never an artist that focused too much on his appearance as he has always had this laid back demeaner to himself. Hopefully Mraz comes to New York this summer, I would love to hear him perform again.

This is not really the usual type of music I write about, but seeing as they are bringing out a 3D version of one of the greatest films of all time, it seemed like a good time as any to hear Celine Dion’s angelic voice again. One of the first James Cameron masterpieces, “Titanic” was a global phenomenom, and whereever the movie went so did Celine Dion’s voice. This song will forever be one of the greatest along with this movie.

Take Care – Drake ft Rihanna

Posted by admin On April - 12 - 2012

Drake and Rihanna collaborate for yet another hit song. The canadian rapper described it as “very artistic and abstract” when commenting about the Yoann Lemoine directed video. Drake and Rihanna had a vintage, classy look in this video as the lighting played along their bodies as the sang to each other. Seems like ‘Jimmy’ did it again. Rihanna was almost static in this video as a montage of clips along with drake made up most of the video. This took nothing away from her though as she looked ever so sexy in the two second glimpes we got of her.

Katy Perry – Part Of Me

Posted by admin On April - 2 - 2012

This highly anticipated video has brought about a lot of controversy, as Katy Perry lives up to her reputation of always steering clear of the norm. While most times her endeavors are embraced, on this occasion many took offense to her message.Feminist author Naomi Wolf claims that the video was a bunch of marine propaganda and she attempted to rally people into boycotting her video. In this attempt she failed miserably, but she did get some attention from the police though, as she was arrested during Occupy Wall Street protest in October singing the same anti-Perry song. Nevertheless Perry has steered clear of these accusations as she claimed she chose the marines because they best depicted what she was trying to say. I happen to like Katy Perry’s music, in moderation of course, I am not a big fan of pop icons. I do like the fact that she is always willing to do something different and march to her on beat. And for that I salute you Private Perry.

Flash Back Joint of the Week- Maroon 5 – This Love

Posted by admin On April - 2 - 2012

When I came across this video I had to post it. This was Maroon 5 before their popularity shot through the roof, this is Maroon 5 before they were considered a ‘pop’ band and this is Maroon 5 before Adam Levine became a sex icon for so many teenage girls and started dating models. Adam Levine tells the ever so familiar tale of girl breaks boy’s heart and boy makes a love song about it. Only difference may be the random sex scenes that they managed to sneak into the middle of the video. This song garnered a lot of recognition back in 2004 when it was released, and despite some minor controversy surrounding some explicit scenes, it is still one of their all time great songs. I am a Maroon 5 fan, and it was interesting to see the transition this band has made to present day. I am not quite sure which Maroon 5 I like, but if they continue to make good music and have less collaborations with Christina Aguilera, I think I’l be fine.

Leave You Alone – Young Jeezy ft Ne-Yo

Posted by admin On April - 2 - 2012

This is the latest music video released from the Young Jeezy’s Thug Motivation 103 album featuring Ne-Yo and produced by Warren G.This music video stretched out a full 7 minutes to give viewers a chance to really get into the story behind the music. Young Jeezy is mainly known for his hardcore rapping most of the times, but on this track he slowed it down to tell the tale of a forbidden love. In the video Young falls a latina girl from Los Angeles but their relationship is doomed from the start as her overprotective father and brothers come between the two lovers.Halfway through the video, the music stops, allowing the viewer to focus more on the story as things take a twist for the worst. The girl’s family finds about their relationship and goes to his house fully armed and drags her away from Young Jeezy’s arms. Alas there was no happy ending here, as the video comes to a close with Jeezy looking on as his love is taken from him. But who knows maybe there will be a part two where Romeo actually stands up and fights for Juliet despite the odds against them. But then again Jeezy does not strike me as the romantic type so maybe not.
latest music video from his recently release Thug Motivation 103 albumhe Warren G-produced love song, “Leave You Alone” featuring singer Ne-Yo.
